Anyone aged 18 or over can register at cruksregister.nl with DigiD, and the gambling stop starts at once; people without DigiD send a signed paper form, also available in English, and the stop starts within a few days. Registrants with other nationalities are asked to add their foreign identity documents, because operators check the register using the details on the identity document a player presents. The KSA can also register someone for six months without their consent, at the request of a relative, friend, employer or court-appointed administrator or after an operator's notification, when gambling is causing harm and other help has failed; the player is heard first, so this takes at least six weeks.

Coverage gap

Does not reach unlicensed offshore sites, which do not check the register; the KSA points registered players to app blockers instead. Lotteries, land-based sports betting and the two slot machines a bar or café may have are outside its scope. Registration does not by itself stop marketing: registered players have to ask each operator to stop sending newsletters and bonuses
