Definition
A blockchain explorer reads a public blockchain and presents its data in human-readable form, letting anyone look up a transaction's status and confirmations, an address's balance and history, or a smart contract's activity. For crypto gamblers it is a way to confirm that a deposit or withdrawal actually happened on-chain and to inspect on-chain betting contracts. It also illustrates why crypto is not truly anonymous, since addresses and flows are permanently public even if names are not directly attached. Explorers show what happened on-chain but cannot vouch for an operator's fairness or legitimacy.
Worked example
After requesting a withdrawal you paste the transaction ID into a block explorer to see it confirmed on the network and arriving at your wallet address.
