Definition
A time limit restricts the duration of gambling rather than the money involved. It can apply to a single session (for example, ending play after 60 minutes) or to a rolling period such as a day or week. When the limit is reached, the account typically logs the player out and may prevent re-entry until the period resets. Time limits address a distinct risk from money-based controls: long, unbroken sessions are themselves associated with loss of perspective, fatigue, and chasing, independent of stake size. Because immersive play distorts the sense of time passing, a pre-set cap decided in advance can be more reliable than relying on in-the-moment judgement. As with all tools, a time limit reduces exposure but does not guarantee safety, and it works best alongside money limits and breaks.
Worked example
A player configures a daily play-time limit of two hours; once reached, the site logs them out and blocks new sessions until the next day, regardless of whether they are winning or losing.
