Walking Wild
A wild that shifts one reel across the grid on each successive spin, often granting a respin until it leaves the screen.
Definition
A walking wild lands on the reels and then, rather than vanishing, moves one position (usually one reel to the left or right) on each following spin. Many implementations award a free respin each time the wild takes a step, so the sequence continues until the wild walks off the grid. Because the wild passes through several positions, it can contribute to wins on multiple consecutive spins. Some games let more than one walking wild be active at once, but the feature's trigger rate is balanced so the overall return still favours the house.
Worked example
A walking wild lands on the rightmost reel and triggers a respin; on that respin it moves one reel to the left and grants another respin. It keeps stepping and respinning until it exits off the left edge, potentially forming a win on each step.
Why it matters
For a learner, walking wilds show how a single trigger can chain into several free spins. For a professional, the direction, step count, and respin coupling define how much value the feature adds and how it interacts with the base-game math.
