Back Office
The internal administrative interface operators and their staff use to manage players, transactions, bonuses, content and reports behind the scenes.
Definition
The back office is the staff-facing control panel of an iGaming platform. Through it, operations, support, compliance, finance and marketing teams view and manage player accounts, review KYC documents, approve or reject withdrawals, configure games and promotions, set responsible-gambling and risk parameters, handle support cases, and pull reports. Access is typically role-based, so a support agent, a compliance officer and a finance manager each see only what their job requires, and actions are logged for accountability. In white-label and multi-tenant setups, each brand gets its own back office view over shared underlying infrastructure. The back office is distinct from the player-facing front end and from analytical tools, though it often links out to the data warehouse and BI for deeper reporting.
Worked example
A withdrawal of 3,000 is flagged for review; a compliance officer opens the player in the back office, checks the KYC status and source-of-funds notes, sees the deposit and betting history, and either approves the payout or requests further documents, with every action recorded in an audit trail.
Why it matters
For learners, it is where the humans running a site actually do their work. For professionals, nearly every operational, support and compliance task flows through the back office, so its permissions, audit logging and usability directly shape efficiency and regulatory defensibility.
