Data Warehouse / BI

A central store of an operator's data plus the tools to analyze it, powering reporting on players, revenue, game performance, risk and compliance.

Definition

A data warehouse is a consolidated repository that collects data from across the platform, wallet transactions, bets and game rounds, deposits and withdrawals, bonuses, KYC and support, and organises it for analysis rather than live operations. Business intelligence, or BI, tools sit on top to build dashboards and reports on metrics such as gross gaming revenue, active players, retention, bonus cost and game performance, as well as risk, responsible-gambling and regulatory reporting. Keeping analytics in a separate warehouse protects the live transactional systems from heavy queries and gives a single, historical view across products and brands. Increasingly it is fed by event streaming for near-real-time data, and it is a key source for both commercial decisions and mandated regulatory returns.

Worked example

An analyst uses the BI layer over the data warehouse to see that a new game has high turnover but poor retention, that a bonus campaign's cost outran its revenue, and to produce the monthly regulatory activity report, all from consolidated historical data rather than the live wallet.

Why it matters

For learners, it is where all the numbers about players and revenue come together to be understood. For professionals, nearly every commercial, risk and compliance decision leans on the warehouse and BI, so understanding how data lands there and how metrics are defined is central to analytics, finance and reporting roles.
