Bitcoin (BTC) Gambling

Gambling with Bitcoin as the deposit and payout currency, exposing the player to both the house edge and Bitcoin's price swings.

Definition

Bitcoin gambling refers to wagering where balances, deposits and withdrawals use BTC. Because Bitcoin is volatile, the fiat value of a player's balance can rise or fall independently of gambling results, so winnings can shrink (or grow) in dollar terms before withdrawal. Bitcoin's base layer can also have slow confirmation times and variable network fees, which is why many operators support faster or cheaper alternatives such as the Lightning Network, other chains, or stablecoins. Using Bitcoin does not alter the house edge; it only changes the payment rail and adds currency risk on top of gambling risk.

Worked example

You deposit BTC worth $200 and win in BTC terms, but Bitcoin's price drops 15% before you withdraw, leaving your cash-out worth less than the game result alone would suggest.

Why it matters

Learners must grasp that BTC gambling layers price risk on top of gambling risk; professionals consider settlement speed, fees and volatility exposure.
