Cryptocurrency Casino

A gambling site that accepts deposits, wagers and withdrawals in cryptocurrencies rather than (or alongside) traditional fiat currency.

Definition

A cryptocurrency casino runs games of chance where the balance is denominated in crypto assets such as Bitcoin, Ether or stablecoins. Some route bets through on-chain smart contracts, but the majority are ordinary web casinos that simply use crypto as a payment rail while running conventional server-side games. Using crypto does not change the underlying maths: the operator still builds a house edge into every game, so a player still loses money on average over time. Many crypto casinos are licensed only in permissive offshore jurisdictions, or are effectively unlicensed, which can reduce player protections, dispute recourse and responsible-gambling safeguards compared with regulated fiat operators.

Worked example

A site lets you deposit 0.01 BTC, play slots and blackjack with a crypto balance, then withdraw winnings to your wallet, but the slots still carry, say, a 4% house edge just like a fiat casino.

Why it matters

For learners it separates the payment method (crypto) from the game economics (house edge), a distinction marketing often blurs; for professionals it flags heightened licensing, KYC/AML and consumer-protection due-diligence needs.

Note: Licensing and consumer-protection standards vary enormously between operators and jurisdictions and change over time; treat any single casino's status as something to verify individually.
