Cross-Sell

Encouraging a player active in one product to also play another — for example moving a sportsbook bettor into casino games.

Definition

Cross-sell aims to raise a player's value and stickiness by broadening the products they use within the same operator, most commonly between sportsbook and casino, or into poker, bingo, or live dealer. Multi-product players tend to retain better and contribute more, so operators design journeys, shared wallets, and offers to nudge single-product players across. It is a core CRM growth lever that does not require acquiring new players. From a protection standpoint, cross-selling into higher-intensity products — such as moving a casual bettor into fast, continuous casino play — can raise harm risk, so responsible operators weigh product intensity, not just revenue, when designing it.

Worked example

A player who only bets on football might receive an offer for free casino spins; if they convert, they become a two-product player, typically with higher retention and lifetime value.

Why it matters

For a learner, it shows how operators grow value without new acquisition. For a professional, it is a proven retention and value lever whose safer-gambling risk depends on which product a player is pushed toward.
