Table Limits

The minimum and maximum amounts a table accepts on a bet, which frame how much can be staked per wager and constrain betting systems.

Definition

Every casino table posts a minimum and maximum bet. The minimum sets the smallest allowed wager; the maximum caps the largest, and there may be separate limits for different bet types (for example a lower cap on a high-payout side bet). Limits let operators manage risk and match tables to different bankrolls, from low-minimum tables to high-limit rooms. They also quietly defeat 'sure-win' progression systems such as doubling after every loss: a losing streak eventually pushes the required next bet above the table maximum, so the system cannot continue and the underlying house edge remains. Limits do not change the per-bet odds; they bound the size of individual wagers.

Worked example

A roulette table has a $5 minimum and $500 maximum on even-money bets. A player using a doubling strategy bets $5, $10, $20, $40, $80, $160, $320 after successive losses; the next required bet is $640, above the $500 cap, so they cannot double again. The maximum has stopped the system, and the house edge is untouched.

Why it matters

For learners, table limits are the practical reason betting systems cannot beat a negative-edge game: the maximum caps the recovery bet before the streak ends. For professionals, limits are a core risk-management and player-segmentation tool that must be set and communicated clearly.
