A bonus round where the player spins a segmented wheel and is awarded whatever prize the pointer lands on.

Definition

A wheel bonus is a feature in which a wheel divided into segments is spun, and the segment it stops on determines the reward, such as a cash multiplier, a number of free spins, or a jackpot tier. Although it looks like a game of skill, the stopping position is decided by the random number generator, and larger prizes occupy proportionally smaller or less-likely segments. Some wheels have multiple levels where landing on an advance segment moves the player to a wheel with bigger prizes. The average payout of the wheel is set within the overall math so the game keeps its long-run margin.

Worked example

You trigger the bonus and a wheel appears with segments showing 10x, 25x, free spins, and a small Grand jackpot slice. You spin it, and it stops on 25x, awarding twenty-five times your stake, with the tiny jackpot slice landing only very rarely.

Why it matters

For a learner, wheel bonuses show that a spin you press is still random, with big prizes weighted to be rare. For a professional, segment sizing and weighting are the levers that price the feature into the RTP.
