Multiplier (Slots)

A value that multiplies a win by a stated factor, such as x2 or x10, increasing the payout for that combination.

Definition

A multiplier increases the amount a winning combination pays by a fixed factor. Multipliers can be attached to a symbol, a wild, a whole spin, a cascade chain, or a free-spin round, and they may be fixed or grow as a feature progresses. They are one of the most common ways slots deliver larger wins, particularly inside bonus rounds where a running or increasing multiplier applies to every win. A multiplier raises the size of wins when it applies, but the frequency of those wins is set so the game keeps its house margin over time.

Worked example

A payline would normally pay 20 coins, but a x3 multiplier symbol is part of the win, so it pays 60. In a free-spin round with a global x5, that same line would instead pay 100.

Why it matters

For a learner, multipliers are the clearest example of how a headline win figure is built. For a professional, multiplier size, cap, and where it applies are central to hitting a target max win and RTP.
