Game certification is the process by which an accredited independent test laboratory examines a game to confirm it performs as specified and meets the technical standards of the relevant regulator. Testing typically covers the random number generator, the mathematical model and declared return-to-player, correct handling of bets and payouts, and compliance with rules such as prohibited features or minimum information shown to players. Certification is a prerequisite for a game to be offered in a regulated market, and results are recorded in a test certificate. It gives players assurance the game is not rigged and gives regulators a technical evidence base.
Worked example
Before a new slot goes live in a regulated market, an accredited laboratory tests its random number generator and confirms the actual return-to-player matches the figure the studio declares, issuing a certificate on which the operator relies.
Why it matters
